Russian pet industry trends

The main Russian pet industry trend is a boost of PL numbers. Major retailers, distributors and manufacturers are developing their pet food and treat private labels. All of them seek for better margin. The other reason for that is recent pet food import suspension which the Russian regulator, Rosselkhoznadzor had introduced within the past 15 months. At the moment supplies from 14 countries are banned with some exceptions, which are also temporary. More than 20 PL’s have been launched on the Russian market recently.

The other significant trend caused by import bans is relocation of the manufacture to Russia. Pet-Product company has moved its PL pet food production from the Netherlands to a new Fava plant in the Northern region of Russia. The official distributor of Brit pet food (Czech Republic) in Russia announced at the ParkZoo that Brit Premium wet and dry food would be manufactured in Russia as of now. Many other PL vendors are now considering to switch to the Russian manufacturers as well.

All ParkZoo exhibitors and visitors highlighted that meeting the colleagues in person in Moscow after the two-year break was very important for building and growing their business. The new venue, Crocus Expo, was also a big step for further development of the fair and the pet industry in general. And they are looking forward to the next ParkZoo which will take place in September, 21–23th, 2022, in Crocus Expo, Expo 1, Hall 4.
