Rosselkhoznadzor to suspend pet food supplies to Russia from Liechtenstein

ban pet food Liechtenstein

The Russian regulator introduces temporary restrictions on the supply of animal food and food additives from the Principality of Liechtenstein, where the pet food manufacturer Herbert Ospelt Anstalt Petfood is located. The Rosselkhoznadzor’s ban is based on the results of an inspection conducted in October – they turned out to be unsatisfactory, the regulator declares.

In particular, the Rosselkhoznadzor found that the competent service of the Principality of Liechtenstein does not control vegetative raw materials, including those coming from the territory of other countries, for GMO component content. Raw materials of animal origin are supplied without veterinary accompanying documents, there is no state plan for monitoring the safety of raw materials and manufactured products.

The other issue is that the manufacturer’s product supplies to the Russian Federation do not comply with the requirements specified in the veterinary certificate for food supply to Russia.

The return of pet food import from Liechtenstein will be considered after the enterprise eradicates all inconsistencies and the provides Rosselkhoznadzor with all necessary materials by the competent department of the Principality.
