Russia started producing recyclable pouches

Purina factory in the Vorsino Industrial Park in the Kaluga region started to produce innovative wet food packaging suitable for recycling, Nestlé Purina PetCare reports.

New ultra-modern heat-resistant polypropylene pouches are now applied for Felix food packaging. Using only one type of plastic allows to completely recycle the packaging and reuse the material.

New pouches will be available in a cardboard box consisting of 80% recycled material and also fully recyclable. Now the plant in Vorsino is setting up and upgrading the equipment of the wet food production line. That will enable it to pack more ready-made pouches in a standard box. The plant is testing corrugated cardboard packaging from recycled materials as well.

Felix cat food in new pouches have been first launched in the Netherlands as part of a pilot project with the largest retail chain Albert Heijn. The results of the project will allow Purina to assess customers’ attitude to the new type of packaging and prepare for the development and launch of other innovative materials that can be used in the future.
