Russian authorities ban pet food supplies from Germany

Rosselkhoznadzor (RSN), the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision, applied to the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture of Germany with a request to suspend the certification of all feed and feed additives, including feed of plant origin, chemical and microbiological synthesis, imported without veterinary certificates of the exporting country, as of May 21, 2021. The RSN highlighted that the reason for this is the controller continuously identifies undeclared and/or non-GMO components in animal feed and feed supplements, imported into Russia from Germany.

Earlier in May, the GMOs were found in horse food produced by the German company Bernhard Kreiling Spezialmischfutterherstellung Gmbh & CoKG, and the supply of products from Bernhard Kreiling Spezialmischfutterherstellung Gmbh & CoKG, Niedersacke from May 21 is temporarily prohibited.

As the undeclared unregistered GMO components were repeatedly identified in the products made by German manufacturers, the RSN requires the Ministry of Food and Agriculture of Germany to suspend the shipment of animal food and food supplements including pet products to the Russian Federation as of May 24, 2021.

Resuming import of animal feed from Germany will be considered by the results of negotiations of the parties planned for the near future.

Within the past 10 months pet food supplies from the Netherlands, the USA and Spain were suspended. Unfortunately, the issues has been not resolved until now and the import from these countries is still banned.
