Global fishmeal production continues to decline

fishmeal production

As reported by the analytical firm Feedlot, the International Fishmeal and Fish Oil Organisation (IFFO) presents data indicating a decline of approximately 22% in the total cumulative fishmeal production volume for the first 10 months of 2023. This is compared to the cumulative production volume registered before October 2022. These figures are based on the list of countries considered in IFFO’s reports.

The primary reason for this decrease is believed to be a 60% year-over-year reduction in fishmeal production in Peru, significantly impacted by the El Niño climatic event and the subsequent cancellation of the first fishing season in April–June this year.

The overall cumulative fish oil production volume for the first 10 months of 2023 decreased by 20% compared to the same period last year. Chile remained the only country to register positive changes compared to the previous year, thanks to increased catches.
