The wet pet food market is poised for steady growth

The wet pet food market

According to a recent report by FMI, the global market size for wet pet food was valued at €20.6 billion in 2023. With the increasing number of domestic pets worldwide, the demand for canned cat and dog food from 2023 to 2033 is expected to grow at a stable rate of 5.5% annually. By the end of this period, the total market valuation is projected to reach €34.4 billion.

Sales of wet pet foods accounted for 19.2% of the total sales of ready-made diets, which were valued at €20.6 billion by the end of 2023. Over the years, demand for wet pet foods has increased due to heightened consumer awareness of their benefits. Canned foods contain more moisture, which can help pets consume enough fluids and reduce the risk of urinary tract infections. Such diets contain fewer carbohydrates, thus potentially preventing weight gain in pets.

The report names the following companies as the leading producers of wet pet food:

• PURINA
• MONGE SPA
• Blue Buffalo Co., Ltd.
• Harringtons Foods
• Wellness
• PetGuard
• C&D Foods
• Darling Ingredients Inc.
• Simmons Pet Food
• NaturPak Pet.
